The Mexican jazz scene is paying tribute to one of its most important figures. This Thursday, February 12th, at the National Center of the Arts (CENART), a concert titled “Eternamente” will be held in honor of Verónica Ituarte, who passed away last October 23rd. This event will bring together friends, students, professional musicians, and jazz lovers to honor her extensive legacy and influence on Mexico's musical community. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM in the Blas Galindo Auditorium. Admission is free, but prior registration is required by calling 55 56281716 on Horizonte 107.9 FM. Tickets are also available at the theater box office located at Calle Milán 24, Colonia Juárez, and on Boletopolis.com. The program will feature pieces performed by musicians who accompanied Verónica Ituarte, including Baldomero Jiménez (piano), Arturo Luna (double bass), and Luis Miguel Costero (percussions). They will be joined by Jorge García Montemayor (guitar), Carlos Iván Reyes (bass), Ulises Arroyo (drums), and Lalo Méndez (harmonica). Concurrently, from February 12th to 15th, the premiere of the one-person play “Malandrito” will take place at the Teatro El Milagro. Written, directed, and performed by Adrián Vázquez, with Sofía Sylwin as Lala, this piece explores the experience of an established migrant and their constant struggle with nostalgia and precariousness. The show is a multidisciplinary exploration incorporating dance, tai chi, music, performance, and stand-up, based on the personal experience of Venezuelan actor Luis Vegas. A live broadcast of the “Eternamente” concert will be available online on 107.9 FM at emer.mx/horizonte. Also on Sunday, February 15th, at 1:00 PM in the same Blas Galindo Auditorium, the fusion instrumental group Etnokam will present their new independent album, “Colecciones Lejanas”. Musicians like Jorge Calleja (guitar, direction), Mónica Del Águila (cello), Madame Gorgona (flute), and Adrián Oropeza (drums) will create soundscapes that blend classical music, minimalism, and the harmonies of national and Latin American folklore. These events are part of a series in Mexico City where music, stage, and tradition dialogue with the national artistic memory. Furthermore, starting February 14th, the play “Wenses y Lala” will be staged at the Royal Pedregal Theater by the company “Los Tristes Tigres”. This story of love and overcoming adversity, a cornerstone of national theater, will be performed on Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 PM, Saturdays at 7:00 PM, and Sundays at 6:00 PM. The venue is located at Periférico Sur 4363, Jardines de la Montaña. Also in the city, Costa Rican guitarist and bluesman José Ramírez, recognized as the “ambassador of the blues for Latin America,” will perform.
